The Climate Change secretariat continued to expand the participation of environmental journalists
from developing countries at UNFCCC conferences.
Through the cooperation of the International Institute for Journalism (IIJ) of
InWEnt - Capacity Building International, Germany,
journalists from developing countries had the opportunity to attend UN climate change conferences.
The journalists reported on crucial issues during the negotiations of the Conference of the Parties
such as implementation, adaptation and future commitments.
The project was managed and financed by InWEnt, which identified journalists who were already
experienced in reporting environmental issues. These journalists were able to explain scientific,
technical and socio-economic information relevant for the understanding of climate change to a
broader public in their home countries.
Previous "press studios" consisted of seminars and lectures by key persons involved in the
climate-change process and of background briefings by UNFCCC and UNEP officials.
"Press studios" have been held at UN climate change summits since COP 5.

Journalism of InWEnt in Berlin.
